Ethics and Law

In this Dentaljuce module on Healthcare Ethics and Law, we examine how we make health care decisions, and learn how to understand why other people may have opposite viewpoints from ours. We will see how to defend our own decisions using established ethical and legal arguments.

Aim
The aim of the learning and teaching materials in this Dentaljuce module is to allow learners to understand the role of ethical reasoning in the healthcare environment.

Module objectives
The objective of the Healthcare Ethics and Law module is to provide the learner with the core of knowledge and the understanding necessary to make ethical decisions in their daily practice.

Anticipated learning outcomes:
The learner will
• have an understanding of the main ethical theories underpinning heathcare: Utilitarianism, Deontology, Virtue theory and Pragmatism.
• have an understanding of how they relate to heathcare - Non-maleficence, Benificence, Autonomy and Justice.
