Aim
The aim of this module is to elucidate the role of controlled tissue damage in stimulating healing responses in pulp therapy using materials like Biodentine and calcium hydroxide.

Course objective

To revise the understanding of conventional and modern pulp therapy materials and their mechanisms of action on dental pulp.

Anticipated learning outcomes:

Recognise the concept of controlled tissue damage in the context of pulp therapy.
Understand the biochemical mechanisms stimulated by materials like Biodentine and calcium hydroxide.
Differentiate between cytotoxic effects of calcium hydroxide and the biocompatibility of Biodentine.
Discuss the implications of high alkalinity on pulp tissue and its healing response.
Apply principles of hormesis in clinical decision-making regarding pulp treatment options.
